Saucy Sweet Café
Bringing a touch of Thailand to Jetty Road, Janjira Somnampone at Saucy Sweet Café has a love for authentic home-cooked food and great customer service. She explains, “Being from North Thailand, there are very few stores and no restaurants. All our food was either grown or came fresh from the market. We were taught from a very young age how to cook, always starting with a traditional Thai omelette. Our culture is about cooking with love and care and being part of a tight-knit community. With the great support of the Jetty Road locals, we love creating a small slice of Northern Thailand here for all to enjoy.” Janjira now employs family who have also been brought up with the same culture of cooking and have a great sense of pride when sharing traditional food.
We asked Janjira, “What’s on the menu?" “We serve a breakfast menu with standard fare, but we have some Asian dishes, like the very popular Thai Omelette. We have a main menu of authentic Thai food that has been so well-received by so many of the locals. We also have an Asian dessert menu that features a new ice cream called Bingsu. The best way to describe it is the ice cream has the consistency of powdered snow in many unique flavours.”
Must Try Dish
At breakfast our most popular dish would be the Thai omelette and our excellent coffee. From the authentic Thai menu, Pad Thai and Thai Green Curry are the clear favourites.
Nijumaru Japanese Restaurant
With a fresh new look, your all-you-can[1]eat sushi dreams come true at Nijumaru Japanese Restaurant. Traditional Japanese food and freedom of choice is what drove the director, a self-taught sushi chef, to introduce the Nijumaru concept to Glenelg. General Manager Jenny Thu explains, “The idea was to give customers a diverse selection of sushi and classic Japanese dishes like curry, sushi and teppanyaki. We offer an a la carte or all-you-can-eat dining experience where the customers can sit and enjoy the experience. They can order anything they want, as many times as they like!” With over sixty mouth-watering dishes, the team are constantly revamping the menu to ensure a diverse culinary experience that keeps customers coming back for more.
We’ve all tried the sushi train concept, but this is different. We asked Jenny, why all-you-can-eat Japanese? “When people go and dine at diverse culture restaurants, they tend to be reluctant to order something they are not familiar with. People think, ‘What if I don’t like it?’ But, with our all-you-can-eat option they can still enjoy a diverse selection of their favourite sushi, sashimi and teppanyaki grill, but also try something new.”
If all-you-can-eat sushi isn’t enough they also have all-you-can-drink package that include a selection of wine, sake, spirit-based and non-alcoholic drinks.
